Amazon Seller
I had wanted to create an Amazon business for quite some time. In order to help motivate me, I decided to make it my EDGE project. I knew that this was a project that would teach me a lot of valuable information that I could use for the rest of my life. My Dad had already created a successful business on Amazon a couple of years earlier so I knew he could help me and be my mentor through this process. In order to find a product to sell, I searched for months and months online, in stores, etc. Finally, I decided to create my own unique product instead of being a wholesaler for another company. I created a baby onesie design that reads, “Mom and Dad hooked a good one.” Though my product is currently listed and being sold on Amazon, it is an ongoing job to run a business. I hope to be able to make this business into an added form of income for my family.

My inspiration for this project came from my dad. I watched as my dad built up a successful business selling products on Amazon.com. His success gave me hope that I could produce the same results. He served as my mentor and helped me start my own business and keep it running. I never would have thought of this idea if it weren't for him.
One of the very first challenges I faced was obtaining a business license. I was surprised to find that the process was not as simple as I had previously thought. After obtaining a business license, the next obstacle to overcome was finding a product to sell. I first began looking for products that were already made by a wholesaler. I searched for many days to find a product I could sell. This process was very time consuming and produced little results so I decided to take another route. Instead, my husband and I decided to create our own product. This allowed us to use our creativity and entrepreneur skills.
My husband played a very important role in my project. Together we came to the decision to start a business and he was with me every step of the way. As we plan to welcome a child into our family, in May, I hope that this business can help provide added income in order to help my husband finish school. Together we learned about the ups and downs of running a business. This knowledge has helped us be more entrepreneurial minded.
You have to be a creative thinker when you start a business. When I was developing my product, I had many brainstorming sessions with my husband. We would think of ideas and products we could sell. These brainstorming sessions allowed me to be creative and innovative. In a business, it is important to always be thinking of new ways to market, more places to sell, and ideas of how to make your product better. This project has helped me to continually think ahead and be creative.
Journal Quotes:
"Our product has been on the market for a couple of months now and we have a long way to go before we begin making large amounts of profit. We are excited to see what happens around the holidays for that can be a really great time for Amazon sellers."
"I am very grateful for this chance I have to develop a new skill that will benefit me for years to come."
